Lockton Health and Safety Manual

HSP8 First Aid  This document sets out provisions for First Aid within Lockton. This  document has been prepared to meet the HSE guidance on first aid.  It is the intent behind this document that Lockton comply with The  Health and Safety (First‐Aid) Regulations 1981 and any amendments.  It is appropriate to state that Lockton supports the definition of first  aid as set down in the regulation and “first‐aid” means:  (a) in cases where a person will need help from a medical  practitioner or nurse, treatment for the purpose of preserving life  and minimising the consequences of injury and illness until such help  is obtained, and  (b) treatment of minor injuries which would otherwise receive no  treatment or which do not need treatment by a medical practitioner  or nurse;  It is also appropriate to state that first aiders are not expected be  paramedics. Aid is exactly that, including seeking outside assistance  to help the individual/s affected.  Getting a message for outside services support via the 999 number is  essential in achieving the preservation of life and minimizing  consequences of injury.
